They Make It In Circles

Pow Wows are one of the best ways to enjoy Native American culture, special event and ceremonial dancing styles. The dancer's regalia and accoutrements are a constantly evolving creative process. For several years, during the 1990's, I participated as an art vendor at the annual Taos Pueblo Pow Wow. The singing, drumming, dancing and trading generated a palpable energy that always stayed with me long after the 3-day event..

Original Lakota Sioux regalia consisted of a roach style headdress "pesa", breechcloth "cegnaka" and back bustle "unkcelakagapi". They make it in circles, or kani ha "crow skin." - Excerpted from American Indian Art Magazine.
